Écrire un Traité d’art moyen. Pas sur la photographie en hommage à Bourdieu, mais sur toute cette production d’art de salon qui fait la Foire. Même les meilleurs semblent choisir le plus vulgaire de leur travail, de l’art vite compris, assorti aux fauteuils du salon.
L’art moyen a ses écoles et ses manuels. C’est du travail mais même l’académisme nécessite un peu de talent.
Au début des années 80, agacés par le retour à la figuration qu’on qualifiait de « libre » comme on parle de l’école libre, nous avions imaginé de créer un groupe « suiviste » qui tâcherait, laborieusement, de faire et refaire ce que d’autres avaient fait, souvent mieux, auparavant. Mais la motivation manquait, déjà , pour aller jusqu’au bout du projet. D’autres sont plus persévérants.
L’avantage de l’art moyen, c’est qu’il se vend bien. En fait, peut-être pas si bien que ça.

[...] Traité de Pensée générale pour Blogs et comptoirs Le Jeu devient intéressant lorsqu’il crée lui-même ses mutations et ses dévoiements. De là à dire que c’est un jeu « intelligent », probablement pas plus que l’artificielle du même nom. Je proposais il y a de cela quelques jours d’écrire un Traité d’art moyen. Depuis ce matin les messages affluent avec des titres rédigés de manière identique et des fragments d’aphorismes et autres citations passe-partout qui ont la pertinence de l’horoscope aux yeux du lecteur complaisant. Ces messages s’enchainent donc, probablement générés automatiquement. Il s’agit là d’un projet brillant ! Produire de la pensée standard, je croyais en avoir l’exclusivité, mais une fois de plus l’exploration du Dump me prouve que quoique l’on ait pensé, un autre, ailleurs l’aura pensé avant nous, et en aura probablement fait meilleur usage. Ou alors c’est que ça n’en valait pas la peine.
